As crazy as it seems we now find ourselves driving back to Mildura after flying into Melbourne last night, the reason for our spontaneous trip based on a decision made only 48hrs earlier, after many months of discussing just how we
could save our backs from lifting a now heavy Two year old Piper and a 35kg specialised stroller into our car, lead us to the inevitable decision the time has perhaps come, we need assistance rather than dread the lift that comes with taking Piper out
for the day!
When we found a car with a lifting device for Pipers chair at a significantly lower cost of what's expected for a fully equipped vehicle, we decided this is our chance!!
Not only will this vehicle
assist us Piper now has the opportunity to sit supported! rather than slumped with little head support, and perhaps the best feature of all...rather than be left sitting alone in the very back of the vehicle we are able to push piper up to the
front, seated right next to her big sister :)
After looking at modified cars we were in doubt we'd ever see this opportunity.
The cars! nothing special! Simply equipped with ramps lifts and tie downs which
is where the astronomical cost as all things disability sets in.
Needless to say we jumped at our chance for this vehicle and through this we met an amazing man who would do anything for his child, a child he was told would
never come home.
Their van now too small as they now require a larger wheel chair for oxygen and other specific needs of their child.
Their lounge room resembles a hospital room with a mattress placed on the floor where Dad sleeps to
monitor his child through the night, Mum and Dad are the full time carers, Their boy is on life support!
Pleased the vehicle is going to another child in need, this gentleman has plenty of advice, also offering information
he has read in relation to seizure control that may assist our daughter! Quite unbelievable! quite overwhelming!
There is certainly always someone worse off than you!
Today's meeting was a reminder of this, today's meeting
was a reminder of the beautiful people in this world.
when it feels life has dealt the hardest hand, think of how fortunate we are, we have life! and we have each other!
And honestly if we have someone to love and
care for, then our life is as enriched and as blessed as it can be πx
